As Shropshire Council makes steady progress on our journey of improvement and culture change, we’re busy building a special senior leadership team that will rebuild the council and Shropshire itself. The challenges are large and complex, but the opportunities are commensurate with the task; so if you’re looking for serious career development, you’ll be joining an organisation with ambition to match your own.
Our Housing Strategy 2025-2030 outlines how – in partnership with developers, housing associations, and the local community – we’re responding to Shropshire’s housing challenges and providing the homes our residents deserve. You’ll be accountable for delivering the Strategy, overseeing the Council’s own housing stock, private sector accommodation, and tackling homelessness. Delivering through partnerships, and building relationships with stakeholders across all sectors, will be crucial. Moreover, you’ll ensure the council fulfils its statutory and compliance responsibilities related to housing. As you’d expect, you’ll make a significant expert contribution to the development of our approach to housing, and will brief senior executive and elected colleagues on all aspects of the portfolio.
Candidates will be experienced housing professionals, able to demonstrate close and detailed grasp of the fundamentals of this role, including all regulation, legislation and national policy. We want to see a strong track record of innovative and decisive leadership, whatever your current level of seniority. You’ll have a comprehensive understanding of how to deliver consistent operational effectiveness, as well as driving a reputation for high standards, customer focus and continuous improvement. Skilled at organisational and financial management, you’ll understand the importance of this highly visible and scrutinised service to achieving our wider corporate goals.
