Overview

With construction work well underway, the impact of High-Speed Two has already been felt by our local communities and businesses across the county. We're looking to expand our exceptional in-house team, which deals with planning and environmental issues that arise from HS2.

As a Senior Highways Approvals Officer, you'll provide statutory highway responses on HS2 work, including lorry routes; permanent and temporary highways; street work approvals; and our Local Traffic Management Plan. You'll work as part of our in-house team and providing professional advice to HS2 Ltd and their contractors within our agreed timescales.

About you

As one of two HS2 Senior Highways Approvals Officers, you'll be instrumental in the HS2 highways approvals process for the Council, ensuring that our interests are protected as you work closely with our highways contractors (TfB) and other stakeholders.

You'll bring to us extensive experience in Highways Development Management, Traffic Management, and highway design. Excellent negotiation skills are a must, as you work to deliver results that our residents and businesses deserve.

Key responsibilities include

  • Leading on negotiations with HS2 Ltd, their contractors, and professional agents through the HS2 approval process.
  • Liaising with Councillors on HS2-related highway and transportation matters and communicating recommendations made to HS2 Ltd, their contractors, and appointed professional agents.
  • Representing the Highway Authority on transportation and HS2-related matters at public meetings, local area forums, Parish Council meetings, and other committees and panels.
  • Supporting colleagues in the BC HS2 team and standing in for the Highways team leader as required.

Whether you're out and about on-site or working from home, we actively encourage our colleagues to take control of their work-life balance. If that's not enough of a reason to join us, you'll be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.
