This is a great role for a talented and ambitious individual who can offer a breadth of experience leading on regeneration and development and the delivery of place-based services.

You’ll be accountable for a full range of services, that includes:

  • Infrastructure, Economy & Capital Projects
  • Environment & Commercial Services
  • Culture
  • Planning, Transport and Public Protection
  • Property & Asset Management​​​​​​​

Reading has a number of major development projects underway – working with public and private sector partners to bring together the investment, capacity and expertise needed to see these ambitious plans come to fruition. As Executive Director, it’s important that you can step into this space, with an informed appreciation of the different drivers and objectives, as well as complexities, and work with others to negotiate and influence delivery of the right outcomes for our community.

Alongside the physical aspects of town centre regeneration, you’ll also be focused on the wider system and infrastructure demands that come with growth – working in partnership with Health, the Environment Agency, Thames Water, SSE and others to ensure that growth is deliverable are sustainable.

Other priorities will include an options appraisal of our waste services, responding to legislative changes and assessing the contractual implications and opportunities that these changes present.

We are looking for an individual with a proven track record of delivery and a full complement of associated skills around commerciality, negotiation, performance and budget management. Outcome focused, you’ll ensure that our processes enable rather than stymie growth, and that an informed evaluation of risk supports good decision-making.

This is a role for someone with the skills, drive and ambition to change Reading for the better. You will be a visible and influential member of the Leadership team who can offer expert strategic insight within your own area and see the connections and interdependencies across the corporate context.
