We are looking for an exceptional and passionate individual to join our senior leadership team as the Assistant Director of Planning, leading our planning services to new heights.

The Role:

As the Assistant Director of Planning, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Dacorum. You will oversee development management, strategic planning and infrastructure teams, driving key initiatives such as the Hemel Garden Communities program, which aims to deliver a further 11,000 homes over the next 30 years. Your strategic vision and leadership will be critical in navigating complex planning challenges, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring the successful delivery of our local plan.

As a visionary leader with extensive experience in planning and development, you will bring with you an ability to see the big picture. This, coupled with technical expertise and strong relationship management skills, will enable you to drive transformative projects and deliver exceptional outcomes for our residents.

With a track record of driving strategic initiatives, and proven leadership and management skills, you will be part of a forward-thinking and supportive team, working on some of the most exciting and impactful projects in the region. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the planning department, including development management, strategic planning and infrastructure teams.
• Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance sustainable development, urban regeneration, and placemaking.
• Oversee the Hemel Garden Communities project, working in partnership with Homes England, St Albans District Council, Hertfordshire County Council and Central Government.
• Drive the local plan process, ensuring timely consultation, submission, and adoption.
• Manage protected environmental areas and suitable alternative natural green spaces.
• Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Place, Communities and Enterprise on place strategies and inward investment initiatives.
• Engage with the community, developers, and other stakeholders to promote high-quality, sustainable development.

Applicants must have a driving licence that is valid in the UK and use of a vehicle.

A Standard or Enhanced check will be undertaken with the Disclosure and Barring Service to ensure that the successful candidate has no relevant convictions.
